A Centre for
Genetics in Healthcare


Nowgen is a leading centre for genetics in healthcare and sets out to inform and improve the practice of genetic medicine. Nowgen is part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, specialising in genetic and developmental medicine. Nowgen is a partnership between the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.

Our work draws on a diverse range of disciplines to:

  • Involve the public and patients in dialogue about genetic medicine;
  • Develop innovative forms of service delivery;
  • Improve the practice of genetic medicine through applied health services research;
  • Deliver professional training;
  • Support biohealth industries;
  • Inform national healthcare practice and policy development.
